I recently was given the opportunity to create the artwork for the premier fundraising event for a local charity. KidSport Richmond serves the community of Richmond, British Columbia, and is a chapter of KidSport, a nation-wide non-profit organization with one simple goal: every kid should be able to play sports.
KidSport Richmond’s fundraising dinner is in its second year, and is their premier event for fundraising for kids in their community. Their efforts go towards league fees, registration, equipment and other costs to help get kids off the sidelines, who might otherwise not be able to play in an organized league.
In 2014, KidSport Richmond raised a total of $40,200 and helped 220 children find time on the fields, rinks, rings and mountains. In 2015, they hope to meet and beat that goal and help even more children find the love of sport with their second annual gala dinner.
My goal was simple. Create a cohesive branding that KidSport Richmond can use for years to come, that not only reflects their current marketing materials for the event, but reflects what the event is: an elegant affair hosted by Olympians and other championship athletes to help bring attention and raise funds for a worthy cause.
We kept the letterhead pretty simple and created it in Word so that that KidSport Richmond team can easily use it and print it as needed. By leaving the date information in plain text, it’s also easy for them to edit and re-use in future years.
The Certificates of Appreciation we kept to the same idea, but with a feature at the bottom for the primary sponsors of the event. We chose a more current script than something that had more of a traditional feeling, which helps create more of a kid-friendly vibe, especially given as that the fundraiser is based around the idea of helping children.
The two-sided ‘buy your ticket’ / ‘save the date’ cards not only communicate the basics of the event (who, what, where, when, why), but also include criticial information about the hosts, the sponsors, the objectives, and the volunteer opportunities.
We followed the previous year’s program guide design but modernized it to reflect the current aesthetic used for the complete guide. It includes a program of events, welcome information, biographies of the host athletes, and information on the different sponsors for the evening.
